IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DAUGHTER
"CAROL RAE SMART"
12/21/83 - 1/26/02

Hello I hope you are having a good day today. I wanted to let you know
about my daughter and what happened to her on 01-26-02. Carol just
turned 18 on 12-21-01. She was attending G.H.S.and GCCC here in
Greenwood,S.C. Carol was a member of HOSA and a member of the National
Vocational Technical Honor Society. Carol had planned to become a
Physical Therapist. Carol was one of those Children who new what she
wanted to be at a very early age. She had a very bright future ahead of
her. Carol will be missed by a lot of people for she made herself known
to all she came in contact with. All Carol ever talked about was
graduation 2002, going to college and getting married one day and
having kids. Carol loved children.
Carol went out on a Friday night to go dancing. Carols favorite thing
to do was to dance. Carol didn't drink or do drugs. Carol went out to
have fun that Friday night. Some boys at the club got into a
fight about a boy putting his hands on a girl in force. One of Carols
friends stepped in to stop the boy from hurting the girl and in turn
they were asked to leave the club. Carol and the boy who tried to help
the girl left the club it was now SAT. 1- 26-2002. Carol didn't know what
was going to happen next. Carol was driving when they left the club that morning
around 3:00am. Some how the boy got in the drivers seat. Carol would
not have let him drive the car. The boy was over the limit of being
drunk, he was on zanexes, and had been smoking pot all in the same
night. Carol had a good head on her shoulders. She would not have let
him drive the car that night. I wish I knew what really happened that
night. Carols friend was doing 110 miles an hour. The back wheel hit
the side of the road and made it go out of control. It then hit a tree
then wrapping its self around the tree. Some time in all of this Carol was
thrown from the car and killed almost instantly. They said nothing
could have saved them while going that fast. Her friend was also
killed that morning in the car. I cry every day. I want to know that
my daughter can rest in peace. She had her life taken from her. She
had so many dreams and she was making all of them come true. Carol would
have Graduated high school and Graduated from health occupations this
school year 2002. Carol knew what she wanted in life. Carol was going to
go to work at Whesley Commones Nursing Home while she went to college
to become a physical therapist. She would have been going to school
with me for awhile and this made her happy. She was truly my best friend
that I will ever have in this life. I will miss her and love her
forever.
~ Love, Cheryl ~

You never said 'I am leaving',
You never said 'goodbye'.
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
A million times I need you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart a place you hold,
No one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone,
A part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.
